History of Java

Java programming language is widely used in a number of different type of environments from business, gaming, electronic, web and mobile applications.
The first public implementation was Java 1.0 in 1995 and was, get this, FREE!That’s when I heard for the first time, “Write Once, Run Anywhere”. It got my attention! Who in those days, was thinking of a free platform to run programs – brilliant! Even more, Its security was configurable and fairly secure. Secure enough to allow network and file access.

Free!

The free product, in those days, came to me on a CD from AOL Inc. distribution via postal mail. On the CD was Software Development Kit (SDK) and Runtime Environment (JRE). Today we go to the Oracle Inc. website to download Java SDK and its JRE.
The internet had taking off in the 1990s’ and major web browsers supported Java. This support gave Java a big push, special during the football game. Sun Microsystem was advertising its great Java product by showing what Applets can do. Link Java with the football game, well, Java became popular.Well at least, that’s how I got to know of Java.Large and small platforms (J2EE and J2ME) soon were designed with the advent of “Java 2” to where we are with Java 8 today.
